A Very Late Clarification and Apology Concerning the Callout for QPOC
I wrote the callout. I am a queer persyn of colour and wanted to be able to find other QPOC to be able to make connections with. Since the stages of Queeriot, I have been trying to get a hold of other QPOC to come/network/perform/facilitate/etc… and beginning the callout was just one more step for me. I think that my process and intentions behind the callout should have been more clear. I’m sorry for that.
Fierce & Fabulous as a whole are also sorry. Everyone in this collective wanted to create a space that didn’t just cater to the needs of young, white, able-bodied, middle-class folks. When this callout was written, everyone in the collective approved it. Soon after it was released, we got called out on it, and since then, there have been a lot of different conversations (concerning tokenization, white guilt, privilege, and different ways to be inclusive) within the krew and also with folks outside of it. However, people have been traveling and it has been hard to get people together to talk about it, to make sure that people actually felt apologetic about it, and all that. We’re sorry it’s taken until now.
In retrospect, F&F realizes how the callout sounded tokenizing, and how it is just problematic in general. We are sorry about this, for the people we’ve offended. Conversations have been taking place on a regular basis as a result of this, and will continue to do so.
We at Fierce n’ Fabulous are really happy that people took the initiative and put time aside to call us out for this fuckup. They didn’t have to. We appreciate this effort on the part of folks who could have just as easily written us off. It means a lot to us that folks would put time aside to talk to us about this. They didn’t have to. So yeah, thank you.
We’ll try not to fuck up again.
As for me, my intentions still stand. Based on conversations with other QPOC in the broader community, it’s safe to say I’m not the only one that feels isolated. So, I’m still asking y’all to come.
